Cutting the Cords of Negative Energy

Cutting the Cords of Negative Energy by Jan Engels-Smith

Human beings are primarily energy systems having a human experience.  Our energy systems are complex and reach far out of the body surrounding the body in fields of energy. These fields can be called auras, subtle body fields, or electromagnetic fields depending on which discipline you follow: metaphysics or science.  These fields of energy can extend out several feet from the body. There are also energy fields inside the body, which are called chakras.  Chakras are more like broadcasting towers and actually feed the subtle body fields around us.

My point in describing this is to help readers understand that energy is the predominate part of our make up and is a major component of our emotional stability, mental clarity, and spiritual awareness.

Our energy is not static but is extremely fluid.  It can be lost, hijacked, contaminated, or stolen.  It can also be refueled, ignited, heightened, attuned and returned.  Maintaining our energy fields and energy system is a major component of good health.  Unfortunately most people are unaware of this need and go through most of their life not sustaining or performing maintenance on their energy system.  The outcome from this lack of attention can present in emotional instability or complications, mental cloudiness or obsessive thinking, and spiritual stagnation.  In fact, all illness is caused by faulty energy frequencies in the body.

The emphasis is this article is on the “cording” of energy.   Every event that you encounter or interaction that you have results in a connection of your energy with this external experience.  These “cords” create the synergistic interchange that both affects the experience and, in response, alters your own being. The result may be minor (although cumulatively significant) or majorly impactful. For example, your memories are a result of the energy interaction you are experiencing with your environment.  Your memory is a result of synapses in the brain (energy currents) bringing a recall into focus.  Metaphysically, we can understand the cords are being “read” and a vague memory may achieve clarity—even into all of our other lifetimes. These connections may be very positive in providing constructive and useful benefits, but there are dangers as well. In the myriad of experiences in our current life combined with the incidents from many past lives, we can become severely entangled in cords, which can present in multiple ways.  We may not be able to let go of lost loves, wounds, or haunting memories. We have all experienced the mental conversation with ourselves after a difficult conversation where we imagine what we wish we had said and even, at times, invent a new conversation and believe a new truth that differs from what actually happened. This is an example of cords being energetically activated to keep this situation alive and present in our psyche.  These energetic connections can affect a person’s heart rate, pulse, and temperate as well as create an extreme emotional state, such as experiencing anger while remembering an uncomfortable incident. The incident may have happened years previously, but we still respond because the energy is still contained in our long-distance connection. Needless to say, these counterproductive cords can be very destructive for the individual and need to be disengaged or cut in order to find peace and wellbeing.

Cord cutting is part of the maintenance of the energy system.  Not all cords are negative or binding in nature.  Some cords are part of our energy imprint of our soul’s evolution through space and time. Children often cord with their parents and parents with their children.  If a situation feels unfamiliar or possibly scary, a young child will step between a parent’s legs.  Energetically a cord is coming from the root chakra of the parent that feels nurturing to the child, energetically informing him that he is safe. However, a negative entanglement may only be resolved by performing a cord cutting. In this act, intention will always be a key factor in finding the correct cords to cut.

Cords usually are connected to energy centers or chakras in the body. The presence of the cord in connection with a particular chakra will determine the emotional component of the cord.  Each chakra exchanges particular energy with our physical, emotional, and spiritual environment—such as love relationships in the heart chakra, loss of power in the solar plexus, or not feeling worthy in the root.  However, since no event is usually singular there can be many cords connecting for various reasons throughout an energy system. Fatigue or exhaustion, guilt, obsessive thinking, not being able to let go of an issue or person, or prolonged grief are a few examples of symptoms of needing a cord cutting.  In my personal view, one could do cord cuttings daily to relieve anxieties and to strip away unhealthy thoughts, just as one might take a daily shower to enter the day fresh and energized. Of course some cord cuttings require more extensive attention and effort.

There are many different methods that can be used in cord cutting. In my personal healing sessions with clients, I always incorporate a very specialized cord cutting—one that the spirits taught me and is very ceremonial in nature. This ritualistic severing of the cord can also be used to restore lost soul pieces.  Many of my clients have experienced amazing results where difficult issues fade away out of the conscious mind and even sometimes out of the memory.  I myself experienced this after I did a session on myself.  My father was a main perpetrator in my life and it seems most of my healing work for myself was about him.  Workshops, private sessions, readings, and self help classes I participated in always seemed to surface him as the source of pain that required my healing.  When the spirits taught me this particular cord cutting, I performed a full session on myself employing all of the ceremony and ritual that I would use for a client.   A few months later I was attending a healing training seminar with a friend and we were to bring up an event that had created an energetic wound.  My friend leaned over and whispered in my ear, “Are you going to work on your dad?”  Since at that moment he was the farthest thought from my mind, I then realized how effectively that ceremony had worked.  I could barely remember my issues with him; they were gone.   I had been truly freed.

In the case of cord cutting concerning family members or loved ones that you are still very involved with, please realize that the intention of cord cutting will remove the difficult situations not the person from your life.  It is always good practice to keep your most precious relationships clear of negative cords; this keeps the relationship healthy and vital.

I can not fully describe the previously mentioned ceremonial cord cutting in this brief article because I can’t explain its contents without readers being fully trained in shamanic energy medicine techniques; however, I can share a ceremony that is profound and I use in workshops with my students.  It is important to remember that it is your birthright to be happy, vital, joyful and sovereign.  Many people are not in those states of well-being because energetically they haven’t been taken care of or learned how to care for themselves as adults.  But happiness and well-being are the natural conditions of life.  Cutting cords and performing energetic clean up is natural and necessary.  Nature does it automatically and naturally.

My favorite example of this is from The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.  Tolle shares his observation that after two ducks get into a fight they separate and float off in opposite directions. Then they each flap their wings vigorously a few times to get rid of the surplus energy that built up during the fight. After flapping their wings they float on peacefully, as if nothing had happened. Dogs shake, ducks flap, and cords are cut automatically.  Humans seem to have lost this natural release function as the ego developed and ruled.  Now we need to incorporate ritual to obtain the same outcome.

Here is a basic technique:

  • State your intention to envision the cords that are binding you to your unhappiness.  You can change the intention with whichever words feel more fitting, i.e.  “My intention is to cut all the cords that are negatively binding me to unemployment.”  or “ My intention is to cut all the cords that are negatively binding me to unhappiness with my spouse.”
  • Envision yourself sitting in nature in a beautiful place.  The sun is shining and you feel safe, peaceful and full of grace.
A bright light appears and you realize that this light is creator, source or the divine.  It shines brightly on you and illuminates your chakras.
  • Starting at your feet, ask to see the cords that are coming off your foot that are binding you to your unhappiness.  Once the cord appears in your imagination follow it out and see what or who is attached to it. (This could be this lifetime or any other lifetime; don’t try to control this with what you know.)
  • Once the person, place or thing appears, envision that you are holding a great sword, laser, or some sort of cutting device.
State: “With the power of love and the empowerment of Source within me I cut this cord and I am free.”
  • At that moment cut the cord off of yourself and then make a second cut to remove the cord from whoever or whatever is attached to it.  Actually move your arm through space in a cutting motion.
  • The cord will fall to the ground and who or what it was attached to will float off untethered from the cord.
  • Go through each chakra: root, adnominal, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye and crown.  You can also do your shoulders and hands before the crown.  The crown is always last.
  • Once this is complete ask the light of source to fill you completely.  Envision this and your true self appearing. Your true self is yourself that has no harm, wounds, or disappointments.  It is the version of you that is your perfect self.  Ask this true self to come and merge with you and source.  Once this happens the cord cutting is complete.
  • Envision yourself in this merged state gathering up the cords and envision a sacred fire burning.  Burn the cords in the fire.  Once the cords are burned, state, “It is finished” three times.  Say “Thank you” and come out of the visualization.

The power to be free lies within each of us and only requires a personal decision to accept the perfection of our true self in a perfect universe.

The Effects of High Frequency and Low Frequency Energy on Your Health

The Effects of High Frequency and Low Frequency Energy on Your Health by Jan Engels-Smith

Radiate energy

The following question was posed on the radio to a leading breast cancer surgeon, “Is there more breast cancer today than 30 years ago or is it just that our awareness of it has increased and more proper diagnosis is possible?” The answer was emphatic, “YES. There is MORE breast cancer today.” The surgeon continued with an explanation that there is something in the environment that we are exposed to that is increasing not only breast cancer, but also illness in general. Cancer research is now targeting the DNA code that is triggered with this environmental “pollutant”.

My question is, “What if the pollutant is actually a frequency of energy?”

We know, because of a variety of signals in the air and water, that whales are being beached, their sonar affected and their homing signals interfered with during migration. The whales are suffering because of frequencies of vibrations being introduced into the water from submarines and military testing. The result of this testing and the frequency signals being used is devastating to the whales. Like humans with increased cancer and other diseases, the whales are ill.

The same type of thing is happening with bees. Cell phone usage and the amount of microwaves in the air are harming them. Their migration patterns and breeding patterns are also being interrupted and they are ill.

We as humans are also exposed to these enormous amounts of lower frequency wavelengths from microwaves, radios, computers, and cell phones. Our bodies are continuously bombarded with these lower frequency waves traversing through us. It is the lower frequency energies that cause illness within us. We are a high frequency system. When a high frequency system has low frequency intrusions in it, there is dis-ease in the system.

So is our predicament hopeless? Are we doomed to go out as a species on the earth because of cell phones? Heaven forbid.

Shamanically, the answer to health is always the same.

The more high frequency energy that you can contain within you and surround yourself with, the healthier you will be.

And remember, worry is low frequency so worrying about this is also detrimental to your health.

A proactive approach is what is necessary. Since EVERYTHING is a frequency of vibration, you can be active in what you choose and decide to expose yourself to, whether it is violent movies, negative news, or processed foods. You can reduce your exposure by choosing differently with just these three things.

  1. You can be active in your choice of the words that you utter during a conversation.
  2. You can be active in your choices with your thoughts.
  3. You can be active in your choices to meditate or to fill with light, do Reiki self-treatments, do journeys and connect with spiritual beings.

All of these are choices of exposure to high frequency energy.

Everything is a frequency of vibration. You are a frequency of vibration. If you are thinking thoughts that make you feel bad, then stop thinking them. Your body is actually saying to you, Warning! Warning! Warning! A harmful thought is being thought. I am communicating this to you by feeling “bad, sad, or mad.”

Also do the obvious. Don’t consciously expose yourself to lower frequency energies. Keep a cell phone away from your head, use the speaker or use a head set. Don’t stand in front of a microwave, or better yet, don’t use one.

Can you think of one thing that you can change each day that will clean up your external environment and improve your internal environment (the internal environment being your own energy system)?

Be active in your choices. Read inspirational materials, play uplifting music of higher frequency when sitting at the computer, go for a walk in nature instead of watching the news.

Most of all, you have the choice to smile, inside and out, and raise your own frequency and for those around you.

The Universal Laws of Energy and Change: Part 2

The Universal Laws of Energy and Change: Part 2 by Jan Engels-Smith

Last time, we covered the first 2 Universal Laws of Energy and Change:

  1. Energy follows intention.
  2. Whatever you add energy to multiplies.

Here are the explanations for the final 2 Laws:

3. Thought followed by word and action equals form.

Universal Laws of Energy

This law is an extension of the previous law—whatever you add energy to multiplies. However, this law is about the amount of energy present in a given situation. There is a significant variation in energy from one circumstance to another. Thoughts function initially at a low frequency. When we attach spoken or written words to thoughts, we increase their energy frequency. Speaking and writing add additional form to thoughts. What may have been a random thought assumes more explicit form. In other words, intention is more clearly defined and given form. You may have noticed that when you explain something to others, it becomes much clearer to yourself. This is because your random thoughts become organized and take the form of statement. This takes energy, which is then stored in the words. Words as speech and script are powerful. They become like contracts with the universe, and should be taken seriously.

Taking action or putting energy into motion is the follow through for what is thought or said. Intention manifests into action and co-creates. In other words, thought followed by words and action equal form. This equation can be applied to something as minor as baking a cake or to a major endeavor such as building a house. Everything ever invented began with a thought, which was then put into words, and then translated into action, which resulted in the invention materializing, or taking form. After the thought, words, and action followed, something materialized. The process of enlightenment, or becoming spiritually connected, follows the same pattern. You have the thought that becoming more aware is what you would like for yourself. You speak of this to others, and you take action by reading books, listening to teachers, journeying to spirit, etc. The end result is a changed you, a new form.

4. What you believe—becomes.

The writer Anais Nin wrote, “We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.” Not only are you a reflection of your thoughts, but also the world you see around you is created by your thoughts. There is an ancient Chinese proverb that states, “When you have a cart and a horse you have three things—a cart, a horse, and a cart and horse.” The interdependence and integration of all things results in the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. To understand the parts is not to fully understand the whole for the whole is much more. Belief systems consist of individual thoughts and attitudes, but they also are more than the sum of these. Conflict and contradiction in our thoughts creates a dysfunctional whole. Clarity comes as the mind, spirit, and body achieve an alignment.

Underlying every thought, every word, and every deed is your belief system. What do you really believe about life, about yourself, about God? Belief systems are complex. They are your core, fundamental to your entire being. Belief systems will directly influence every facet of your life. Do you really know what you believe or how you came to believe it? Most people are not aware of how they obtained their belief systems. Many are handed down from parents, schools, churches, cultures, societies, and other environments.

Part of becoming awake and aware is to discover what you believe. Belief systems make you think, say, feel, and behave in certain ways. If you work backwards from your behaviors, you will always find a core belief that controls your behavior. But belief systems are choices, and they can be changed. You need to determine if your beliefs are supporting or blocking your healing and growth. One person can change a belief, and in turn change the world. As Ghandi said, “We must be the change we want to see in the world.” In order to do this, you need to explore your belief systems in great detail, get to the root of their existence, and then decide what changes you want to make.

Chakras and the Laws of Attraction

The Chakras and the Laws of Attraction by Jan Engels-Smith

“I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.”
From “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley

chakras

In the current state of spiritual awakening, we encounter a variety of approaches to achieving self-realization and empowerment. There seem to be many options and you may find yourself moving from one alternative to another and you may even feel a sense of incompleteness and fragmentation in your spiritual life. In the emerging age of new awareness, the one significant quality of transcendence is a new understanding of the wholeness of all things—the oneness of the universe. The fragmentation we feel in our spiritual practice is in conflict with this basic principle, but the sense of divisiveness is the fault of our thinking, not the condition that actually exists.

I have found that shamanism offers a unifying approach that encompasses all of the various practices in its understanding that all of the universe is one entity and that our outdated mechanistic view of fragmented parts is an artificial construct developed in humankind’s effort to control his universe rather than to become a part of it. An example of this unity can be found in two seemingly disparate concepts—one from ancient times (The Chakras) and another that has received much current attention (The Laws of Attraction). It is important to understand that they are one and the same because each principle enhances the other when we practice them in harmony.

The Laws of Attraction are based on an understanding of the fields of energy that exist in and around us and offer us the opportunity to influence these fields by the attitudes and intentions that we choose. Positive thoughts attract positive energies and create realizable affirmations that enrich our lives and promote constructive changes. In the same manner, negative thoughts attract negative energies and prevent us from achieving the better opportunities that we seek. Constant attention to seeking benevolent outcomes rewards us with wonderful and munificent gifts, often beyond our greatest wishes. The Laws of Attraction make us aware that we are the masters of our fate and the determiners of our future wellbeing.

The chakras are also concerned with energy fields and are the centers of our life force in association with vital points in the physical body. Energy flows through seven centers of our body and provides healing and balance to our systems. If the chakras are blocked, one may experience illness, weakness, and disequilibrium in one’s spiritual, physical, and emotional states.  Focusing on positive flows of energy through the Laws of Attraction can serve to open the chakras and promote good health, security, and happiness.  It bodes well for us to understand these two energy principles and to consciously exercise our bodies, minds, and spirits to attain the advantages of the wonderful energies that the universe puts at our disposal.

Each of the seven main chakras in the body has a different function in the manifestation of your reality. In their ideal state, the chakras pulse out energy that is healthy and supportive to the wellbeing of an individual. The chakras can move from an ideal state (which you are born into) to a more contaminated state throughout life. This contamination comes from life experiences and the attachments to wounds. Understanding this negatively altered condition is also the beginning of healing. First, we must understand the meaning of the individual chakras in their ideal state.

Many times the chakras close down and become contaminated with beliefs that are incongruent with their ideal state and these are felt as blocks or constrictions in the energy system. For example, if you felt as a young child that you weren’t safe, you weren’t secure, and that you didn’t have a purpose because you were unworthy, that would be pulsed out of your root chakra. This energy then becomes part of your subtle body fields or auric fields of energy and becomes part of your broadcast energy. You then would start manifesting a reality that would support this broadcast, bringing incidences and experiences to you that would prove you aren’t safe or that you are unworthy to be safe. This thinking and believing pattern sets up a cycle, which creates a reality that you come to accept and use as a motivation for your actions and decisions.

The chakras are the engines of our energy broadcasts. Conforming to the Laws of Attraction, the chakras vibrate outward, engage with like energies, and draw back into our beings the energies that match our intentions. The art of healing oneself is fundamentally grounded in the understanding of our fields of energy, in the choices we make, in the intentions that we establish, and in the energies that we broadcast into our environment.

The Highs and Lows of The Laws of Attraction

The Highs and Lows of The Laws of Attraction by Jan Engels-Smith

attraction

We are living in an attraction-based universe, and when you ask, it is always answered, but the answer may create a positive or negative result depending on our way of asking. If we ask for a positive result with a positive frame of mind we will receive the result we seek, but there is a danger in assuming that a focus on a negative condition that we seek to keep away from us will drive it away.

Remember that this is an attraction-based universe and a negative thought will attract a negative result. The attention to the negative draws it to us even as we wish for it to go away. We attract; we do not repel. If you yell-I want this! You attract it. If you yell- I DON’T want this, you attract it. The important consideration is how we frame our thoughts, how we use the power of attraction to draw to us that which we wish to have, and how we allow what we do not wish to have to not be in our sphere of attraction.

The Laws of Attraction are based on vibrational frequencies of energy. Energy emanates from and is attracted to all living beings as well as inanimate objects. These invisible forces interact with other forces within their orbits and there is a constant interplay of energies that alter each other and create conditions of physical, emotional, and spiritual alteration. The attraction of energy is governed by the principle that vibrations match other vibrations. High frequency energy vibration is attracted to energy vibrations of a like frequency and low vibrations are attracted to like energies of low vibrations. Similar energies resonate with each other. A simple example of this exists in tests with tuning forks. Tuning forks are made to vibrate to certain notes on a musical scale. If an “A” tuning fork is placed at one end of a football field and another “A” fork is placed at the other end, when one is struck and frequency waves are generated they will cause the other fork to vibrate to the same frequency. But when unlike tuning forks are tested, a “G” tuning fork will not create a responding vibration in an “A” tuning fork.

The vibrations are invisible but the reactant object recognizes the vibrations and reacts accordingly. Like tuning forks, we are resonant with vibrational forces around us. When we emanate positive vibrations they interact with like vibrations and when we tune to a negative frequency, we connect to negative energies.

Achieving Maximum Impact with The Laws of Attraction

Achieving Maximum Impact with The Laws of Attraction by Jan Engels-Smith

saturn

The universe is governed by a physical condition in which bodies are attracted to each other and stability is achieved by these forces. Celestial masses are drawn into orbits and paths that create solar systems and galaxies that maintain themselves for eons of time. These fundamental Laws of Attraction, like the laws of gravity, sustain existence. Just like these enormous physical bodies in the universe, we are subjected to Laws of Attraction that may create significant conditions that allow for our lives to maintain and improve, but we must exercise options to achieve the maximum positive impact. As the Earth’s gravitational force draws objects with physical mass to its center, so as living beings we are capable of attracting either positive or negative conditions into our surrounding environment and even into our souls. There is constancy in physical gravitational laws that creates a perpetual and never-changing condition. In a like manner, the Laws of Attraction in our lives are constant and predictable.

Our thoughts and attitudes are our comparable “gravitational pull” that draws to us the objects that revolve within our sphere of influence. Like the invisible forces of gravity, the Laws of Attraction impact us regardless of our knowledge of them or our consciousness of their presence.

As a spaceship travels around the moon and returns to Earth, scientists work with an awareness of the effects of gravity to achieve a desired result—the movement of a spacecraft from Earth’s orbit and the return by engaging Earth’s gravitational pull. In a similar fashion, we can make decisions governed by the Laws of Attraction that attract within our “orbits” either positive or negative forces but, like the scientists using the laws of gravity to positive affect, we must understand the Laws of Attraction if we are to be successful in using them to our greatest advantage.

Doubt Extinguishes Possibility

Doubt Extinguishes Possibility by Jan Engels-Smith

Firewalk 2009

Our belief systems affect our manifestations, including healings or what are commonly referred to as miracles. According to the information from my spirit teachers, there is no hierarchy of miracles. It is no more difficult to heal cancer than it is to soothe a stubbed toe. The possibility of healing, or the lack thereof, lies in the belief system of the wounded or the healer/practitioner. Healings and miracles deal with energy and the amount of faith or trust contributing to the process.

Faith is built by the strength of one’s belief systems. The more you believe something to be true, the more faith you have in the processes associated with it. The more faith you have in the process, the more energy the process will receive. The more energy received, the more fuel to create the desired outcome. As you manifest more and more in your life, your trust level will escalate. As your trust escalates, it feeds energy to your faith and your belief system and thus increases your ability to heal or to perform miracles. This diagram illustrates this cyclical process.

According to the universal Laws of Attraction you will be adding energy either to your faith or to your doubts. The cycle in the illustration is just as true for negative beliefs. When doubt creeps into your awareness, you lose power. If you add energy to your doubts, they will manifest. You reinforce whatever belief system gets the most energy.

It is also important to remember that hope is not the same as faith. Hope is an indicator of lack of faith. Complete faith is absolute; there are no doubts, no fears, no wishing, and no hoping. If you hope for something to happen, you cancel some of its probability.

Until you know absolute faith, some of the upper level energy movement practices will be unattainable by you. You will still, somewhere in your belief system, create a hierarchy of difficulty in which you believe some things are beyond your abilities. This is why many of the so-called miracles are not accessible to many people; they do not have the faith to support moving energy in that way. Doubt extinguishes possibility.

Some examples of activities attainable by working with energy are shape-shifting, walking on water, fire-walking, and levitating. All are possible. All are done regularly in the cultures that support these activities. Many of you, as you consider the nature of these activities, have just assigned a level of difficulty to each of these feats. This hierarchy of difficulty is established based on your belief system. If you have heard of something happening, then it brings it into the realm of possibility. As I said, these feats actually occur in physical reality. Shape-shifting, for example, is not just an awareness one might have in an altered state of consciousness, but actual transformation into another physical form that is able to maneuver in the physical world we commonly share.

If you know the story of Jesus walking on water, but have heard of no other person performing the feat, then walking on water might remain, in your thinking, a case of “He can, I cannot.” Your need for cumulative evidence will limit your beliefs about your own abilities.

Levitation is the ability to defy gravity. Mystics have been known to do this for centuries. Yogis do it regularly during meditation. Saint Theresa of Avila was said to levitate every time she prayed; she would actually float to the ceiling. Her love for God was greater than any gravitational pull, and she floated upward because of her heart’s desire to merge with her beloved Jesus. There are many historical accounts of levitation, but it remains one of the more difficult beliefs to accept.

Fire-walking also defies physical law as we understand it. Fire burns when brought into contact with human flesh. Yet fire-walking has been done for centuries, and many people have heard of it. The mere fact of hearing about a feat brings it into the realm of possibility. Since more people have heard of acts of fire-walking than of levitation, for example, fire-walking actually has the greater potential for being possible. More people are fueling the thought form of fire-walking as a possible reality; hence, fire-walking is becoming accessible to more people.

I have fire-walked myself numerous times. The first time I walked on fire, the group I was participating with was actually filmed for a news broadcast. During the broadcast, aired a month after our fire-walk, the newsperson not only had clips of us fire-walking, she also decided to get different opinions on how this was possible. She interviewed a fire marshal whose attempted explanation of the phenomenon was almost comical.

Explanations I have personally heard range from the sweat on one’s feet creating a water barrier, to the ash acting like an insulator, to the suggestion that people must soak their feet in ice water before they go across. The plain fact is, you just do not burn. To me, fire-walking felt like walking over popcorn; it crunched, and sometimes poked, but it did not burn. The red embers look like the perfect campfire for roasting marshmallows-the hottest form of campfire, more so than when it is flaming. So how can this be? Fourteen hundred degrees is red, scorching, searing, blistering, and glowing hot-a temperature that should cause permanent damage — according to our physical laws of science. Yet, people walk across red-hot coals and glowing rocks that range in temperature from 1000 to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit and do not get burned. Their feet do not even get warm.

Since that experience, Spirit has taught me much about man-made laws and physical laws. We need them to help us understand our world and to explain why things work the way they do. They provide a tremendous amount of safety to our frail humanness. However, when working with Spirit, we are capable of altering any of our frailties. Spirit is not limited by gravity, fire, the speed of light, time, or locality. All is possible. Belief in such feats is non-rational, requiring that one be able to move beyond rational thought to understand that the universal consciousness dwarfs our rational minds.

Scientific Laws and Universal Laws

Playing Both Ends to the Middle: Scientific Laws and Universal Laws by Jan Engels-Smith

People who have spiritual power have learned how to work with energy. Working with energy requires an understanding of both scientific laws and universal laws. Scientific laws change as science progresses. There were once laws that supported the beliefs that the earth was flat, was the center of the universe, and that light only travels in a straight line. These laws held true until science advanced to discover other possibilities, at which time new scientific laws emerged. Scientific proof supports a set of beliefs until a new scientific model redefines reality. Many scientific truths have passed into myth, which only exists from the vantage of hindsight; it was only truth in the context of the time that spawned it.

If history is an accurate predictor of our future, then we must assume that the current scientific truths will eventually become myth as new truths emerge. How confident of our scientific truths can or should we be? The American dramatist Arthur Miller observed, “An era can be said to be at an end when its basic illusions are exhausted.” Our mental models of reality may never be more than “illusions” that we, as a culture, have commonly agreed upon. The models have the feel of truth because they are widely shared. They create our current paradigm.

A paradigm is a constellation of concepts, values, perceptions, and practices shared by a community. That constellation forms the basis for how a community defines and organizes itself. Scientific paradigms, widely accepted by advanced societies, have become the basis of defining reality for our world community. Primitive societies that may not share scientific worldviews are often targets of programs intended to convert them to higher truths. At times, however, we have discovered that the primitive paradigms were, in fact, accurate. A good example is recent medical discoveries that validate the potency of traditional medicines and the role of mind-body-spirit connection in the healing process. Once considered to be of the realm of witch doctors, these are now receiving serious attention from the scientific community.

Our beliefs — even our scientific knowledge — color our observations and perceptions. We look for evidence to corroborate what we know; we find the evidence because that is what we are predisposed to see. Consequently, we continually reinforce as true that which we already know. This is done at a subconscious level, but it is how paradigms govern our lives. Breaking out of these paradigms is difficult, and it takes strong character to go against such compelling and accepted societal norms. History is full of accounts of people being persecuted and, in some instances, killed because they supported new discoveries in science. Hindsight being 20/20, two hundred years later it is easy to say, “How could they have believed something so ridiculous?” What will be said of our beliefs two centuries from now?

In truth, all things are possible and people are limited only by their own imaginations! That is exactly why the spirits are forever asking us to broaden our perspectives.

Since that experience, Spirit has taught me much about manmade laws and physical laws.

There are volumes written about faith, but the concept is as simple as the mystery it defines. Faith is the belief in the unseen, not the seen. Faith is NOT looking at what presents around you but believing in a power that changes “seen” reality. Spirit is asking us to have faith and trust Spirit, trust the mystery, trust the unexplainable. Trust is developed from experience, even if our experience includes not being able to explain why something happened. When faith and trust are developed, we open ourselves up to the unexplainable truth of Spirit. It is mind boggling, many times incomprehensible, and it is supposed to be so. It is the Great Mystery.

How much do you trust Spirit? Are you willing to let go and surrender to the process of change that is essential for spiritual growth? Lao Tzu in the Tao Te Ching wrote, “True mastery can be gained by letting things go their own way. It cannot be gained by interfering.” You cannot and should not control the world about you, but you must surely participate actively. Mastery is being in the natural flow of the universe and allowing yourself to move to a new place.

Imagine this scenario: You are asking or praying for some sort of physical healing. You are motivated and enthused, dedicating time to meditation and prayer, running energy through your body, and doing all the things you believe are good for you. Suddenly you lose your job. You are shocked, disillusioned, and fearful. You feel insecure, and lose your focus on your healing and your faith in Spirit. You have difficulty accepting an event that does not fit with your sense of what healing should look like. You attention has shifted from internal to external circumstances.  You being to doubt.

Consider the possibility that your job is the cause of an energy creating your illness. Consider that you might need to live in some other part of the country and that your job has been an impediment to that move. Consider that the nature of your work has made you unhappy, creating negative energy that contributes to your need for healing.

Trust the things that happen. What appears negative to you may, in fact, be necessary for your spiritual awakening. Be thankful. And try to develop a larger awareness of how things unfold for growth and healing. Look positively ahead and contribute positive energy to whatever will be your next experience. Maintain your commitment. Trust that the events will take you to a good place, even if you aren’t there just yet.

Remember, your prayers are answered, you are loved, and there is a divine order to life. Miracles happen!

A Prayer for the Water

A Prayer for the Water By Jan Engels-Smith

Prayer for the Water

There is always a theme that is revealed prior to the Level 2: Telepathic Practicum experience that LightSong sponsors each year. The theme is always different and completely appropriate for the corresponding group that is involved that particular year. Now after doing 30 practicums, I realize that there has been an overall teaching from the spirits that builds on each practicum. I personally notice a building of information through the themes that helps me understand what it means to be on the leading edge of 21st century shamanism. The theme of this story is a prayer for the water.

The themes manifest after months of journeying, praying, and watching for signs. Spiritual growth, awareness, and authentic wellness have dominated the last few years in the themes that have expressed. Predominately about how to obtain happiness and how to stay in this higher vibration of wellness, which will then translate into a heather (happier) world.

Challenges or teachings occur each year that the support camp takes on that I believe are microcosms for the world. We use techniques and experiences to master our lives in this contained environment, knowing that what we become skilled at during the practicum is a template for the world at large. If we can achieve it there, it becomes part of the mass consciousness that others can then tap into.

The theme one year emerged around water. There were several examples of the power of water that became evident. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico was the news that filled media broadcasts and surrounded me with information.

The rain that we experienced in Portland that spring was record-breaking and relentlessly grabbed my attention each day. The Trask River, where the Practicum was held, has a huge voice in the multiple journeys that my assistants take in preparation. Even though I knew it was too early to in the year to say with absolute conviction, I presumed that the theme would be about this most precious liquid.

My experience is that water is a reflector, a mirror for our emotions and thoughts. In journeys to water years ago, the spirit of water told me that there were two things on the planet that were created without any agendas or predisposed signatures. They are water and clear quartz crystals. Both of these substances are completely programmable and will “broadcast” the program that is laid into them. Since the water is a mirror for our thoughts or feelings, it is a form of broadcast out into the environment that shows us either how pure or contaminated our thinking or feelings are.

Dr. Masaru Emoto, a Japanese scientist, has documented countless studies on the subject of water and how it is affected by our thoughts and vibrations, and has become a primary source of this leading edge information. I have written several newsletters on the topic of the importance of personal vibration and positive, intentional manifestation. It is a topic that I think about all day long. What are our thoughts and feelings creating in the world at large?

The Gulf spill seemed to tax even the most spiritually inclined and took them into the lower depths of anguish, fear, and powerlessness. However, my experience with spirit has shown me that there is no problem that exists that is presented without some sort of available immense growth. To become aware of the growth or the solution means that you must be the vibration of the solution. Sometimes a difficult truth to swallow; however, it is true. Please refer to my newsletter from March 2009, Choose Happiness in Difficult Times for more information on the topic

Another thing that I consistently think about is the layers of reality and what is hidden in the bigger picture of a given situation. The first layer is that there was oil spilling into water, but objectifying the problem by personally moving away from it enables a magnification of other realities that may be in motion.

What is oil? I remember the message from Terry Kem, a council member and one of LightSong’s Associate Teachers, when he was merged with a Spirit Being from below the earth. This spirit said that a whole world exists below the earth. I am not speaking of lower world, but a group of spirits that live below the earth and are part of the earth, but are not surface dwellers like we are. Oil is one of those groups that live beneath the earth, and oil has a spirit; it was created from the remains of millions of animals and plants that existed long ago, our ancestors of the early earth, before humans. They are giving a strong voice to a message. They are placing that message in the water, our sustenance, and getting us to pay closer attention.

Unfortunately, many humans missed this important message because they were outraged, blaming, and screaming. And if they were not overtly livid, they drowned in despair, heartache, and powerlessness. Neither of these two reactions benefitted the solution. These lower frequency vibrational emotions and thoughts about the cause only foster more of the problem. Many people desire to know what to do, but are perplexed with the enormous amount of death they were faced with in the ocean.

Dr. Masaru Emoto’s broadcasted prayer for this situation is very simple, yet extremely powerful.

“To the water, whales, dolphins, pelicans, fishes, shellfishes, planktons, corals, algae, and all creatures in our Gulf of Mexico, I apologize. Please forgive me. Thank you. I love you. Amen.”
– Dr. Masaru Emoto

We can pray this prayer daily and forever, long after the oil spill occurred. And we can change the focus of the prayer to fit any type of situation. This prayer reveals a style of prayer that is not judgmental but yet accountable. Emoto’s message is to pray without worry, blame or judgment: To pray with love and humbleness. It addresses all life as being valuable and that each of us can make a difference regardless of what others are doing. I encourage all of us to say a prayer like this countless times a day, adding positive, emotional, grateful, and authentic feelings to what ever you are praying about. And we can change the focus of the prayer to fit any type of situation.

We are the creator beings of this planet. EACH ONE of us makes a difference! YOU can help with the ongoing healing of anything. Where two or more are gathered, there is an exponential amount of energy gathered and sent.

Remember that there is always a greater message and teaching in every situation. Being on the leading edge means to not get caught in the everyday drama and hype about what is “wrong” in the world. A bigger perspective or a spiritual growth perceptive can reveal that the oil is not the enemy. These ancestors have been helping us survive, warm ourselves, and flourish for decades. See beyond the “disaster” and look at the bigger picture. There are no accidents. What are the messages that are being given from these two mighty forces, the water and oil? Journey, pray, and meditate on this. The answers and solutions will surface as we stay in the vibration that allows them to manifest.

These are the teaching of the leading edge in 21st century shamanism. The healer must be the vibration of the solution or the heeded situation not the vibration of the problem.

We are changing the world, and it is moving forward in a glorious way.
